Type-ahead-find: Faster Text and Link Searching for Chrome
Type-ahead-find is a free Chrome add-on developed by typeaheadfind, designed to enhance accessibility by allowing users to search for text and links on webpages more efficiently. With this add-on, users can start typing or press the forward slash (/) key to initiate a text search. To search only for links, users can simply press the apostrophe key (').
The add-on offers a customizable "direct search state" option, allowing users to set their preferred default search policy, whether it's text, links, or disabled. To navigate between search matches, users can utilize the F3 or Shift+F3 keys, or the Control+G or Shift+Control+G key combinations. Additionally, the Alt+N/P keys can be used to switch between matches.
Type-ahead-find also provides the convenience of toggling between matching modes (text/links) with the F4 key, once the search is active. Users also have the ability to blacklist sites that have their own shortcuts, ensuring a smooth experience. The search results prioritize displaying the first matches within the current viewport.
However, it's important to note a few limitations of Type-ahead-find. The add-on is unable to search inside iframes and does not search for text in adjacent HTML nodes. Additionally, if a webpage already has its own JavaScript keybindings, the extension may not function properly. In such cases, the recommended solution is to blacklist the site in the options page and disable the extension for that specific website.
